NFL Weekend Preview: Who Needs A Win Week 14 Stuck
Posted on December 9, 2012 at 12:12 PM.

Every week Brendan and Matt pick a team that absolutely needs a win, with the playoffs starting to take shape here are two teams that need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Matt – Dallas Cowboys

It’s do or die for the Cowboys.

Sitting at 6-6, the Cowboys will have a mountain to climb if they lose. The Cowboys have been playing well, but their last two wins have come from teams under .500. This week, they have a serious test against the Cowboys.

They’ll be without starting defensive tackle Josh Brent as well. Brent, a 7th round supplemental draft pick in 2010, was arrested early Saturday morning and was charged with intoxicated manslaughter. Brent killed teammate Jerry Brown in the process.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of this accident and the passing of Jerry Brown,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in a statement. “At this time, our hearts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with the members of Jerry’s family and all of those who knew and loved him.”

Much like the Chiefs rallied around the tragedy that happened last week, can the Cowboys win for their fallen teammate?

Brendan - Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay is on the outside looking in at the moment, and unfortunately for them have a few tiebreakers against them at the moment. They’ll need to win out for a chance to even think about the playoffs and that starts with a win over the Eagles this weekend.

As we all know by now, the Eagles have fallen off a cliff and are barely competitive at this point. Therefore, this should be a walk in the park for the Bucs right? Well, not so much. They have the worst pass defense in the league, and while the Eagles have been more of a running team of late, this could just be the game that Nick Foles needs to get going.

What about Bryce Brown? Is he the real deal or is he just a huge fantasy blip on the radar? I honestly don’t know. It’s not like the lack of tape on a running back is an excuse you can use in the NFL. He isn’t a pitcher in baseball, so I think Brown could be the real deal. He’ll have a tough time against the Bucs top-ranked rush defense, but he should be able to get things going in the passing game.

Josh Freeman will need to pick apart the Eagles middle-of-the-pack passing defense. He’s capable, and his receivers have the ability to step up in a must-win game for the Buccaneers, but will they?
